Barbara G. Walker (born July 2, 1930) is a U.S. author and feminist who writes about spirtuality, anthropology, literature and mythology from a matriarchical viewpoint. She also is an influential knitting expert and the author of several classic encyclopedic knitting references.

Her feminist work and activism led the The American Humanist Association to name her "Humanist Heroine" in 1993, and in 1995 she received the "Women Making Herstory" award from the New Jersey NOW.

Personally, Ms. Walker’s reference books have been inspiration for many of my original designs. In 2009 I had the honor of meeting her in person at Sock Summit, where I asked her to pick one of my hat designs as her namesake. She chose this hat (still in progress then). I think that her reaction and choice make this design even more special and endearing for me.
