 Barbara G. Walker

    by Anne Kuo Lukito

Barbara G. Walker (born July 2, 1930) is a U.S.

author and feminist who writes about spirtuality,

anthropology, literature and mythology. She also

is an influential knitting expert and the author of

several classic encyclopedic knitting references. Her

feminist work and activism led the The American

Humanist Association to name her “Humanist

Heroine” in 1993, and in 1995 she received the

“Women Making Herstory” award from the New

Jersey NOW.

In 2009 I had the honor of meeting her in person

at Sock Summit, where I asked her to pick one of

my hat designs as her namesake. She chose this

hat! I think that her reaction and choice make this

design even more special and endearing for me.

The hat is worked flat then seamed together with

the shirred panel. Instructions for several different

accessories will allow you to personalize and

change the the look of your hat.
